What is Bonded Fibre Matrix?

Bonded Fibre Matrix (BFM) is wood fibre mulch similar to that used in conventional hydroseeding. However, BFM has additional polyacrylamides, guar gums, and synthetic fibers to reinforce the matrix once cured. After a drying (curing) period of 24 hours, the matrix crusts up and bonds to the soil, which prevents erosion problems. Once formed this crust will fully resist splash erosion, but must not be placed in areas where flowing water is expected.

Uses of BFM?

These hydraulic products are ideally suited for steep to extreme slopes where installation of erosion control blankets is physically limited. BFM is usually applied to slopes greater than 3:1 where soil stabilization is required.

The future of BFM?

BFM is becoming more prevelant in extreme slope installations to insure installers safety versus blanket installation as well as in extremely environmentally sensitive areas, where the netting and thread on conventional erosion control blankets can be a threat to wildlife and fish.
